What doesn’t have electronics in it these days? From the smallest consumer products to the largest industrial products, almost everything we use day-to-day has electronics in it. As a designer or engineer, that means having to consider how to manage the heat produced by those electronics to ensure that they don’t fail or cause a safety issue (too hot to the touch, for example).
How do you integrate heat management into your design process?
In our recent Services Spotlight webinar on electronics cooling with SolidWorks Flow Simulation, we covered the electronics cooling tools of the trade for anyone using SolidWorks as their CAD tool: SolidWorks Flow Simulation and the Electronics Cooling Module that adds a suite of productivity tools for electronics cooling analyses.
We also discussed how 3 customers engaged the Hawk Ridge Systems Analysis Consulting and Training team to help them get through their electronics cooling challenges:
- Customer 1, “Quick and Dirty” Air Flow Evaluation: Leveraged our analysis consulting service to setup and run an airflow analysis to determine if the flows were comparable to a known good product’s airflow while they waited for the EE’s power numbers for a full thermal-flow simulation.
- Customer 2, Learn Through Validation: Leveraged our mentoring service to extend their knowledge from our classroom training by having HRS work with them one-on-one to setup an analysis on their product and adjust the simulation to eliminate assumptions to get results that matched the known performance.
- Customer 3, Integrate Services and SolidWorks Flow Simulation Into Their Design Process: Step 1 was that they needed a thermal analysis completed quickly. With no time get the software and get ramped up, they leveraged our analysis consulting service to get the initial analysis completed. Step 2 was to work Flow Simulation into their design process by getting the software in-house, getting trained and then getting mentored on how the initial analysis was done and how to continue the design/analysis process.
